The Sovereignty Protection Office (SPO) writes reports, serves the ruling party and uses a vocabulary reminiscent of the communist era. When Fidesz’s political interests require it, it envisions foreign agents, especially in cases where the organization in question is working on exposing corruption. The SPO operates on an annual budget of HUF 6 billion, but whether anyone at all reads its reports remains an open question.
