A CIA valószínűleg a szovjetektől vette az ötletet, hogy áltudományos technikákat is kutasson. A távoli szemlélés nevű módszerrel a médiumok megpróbáltak ellenséges lokációkat felkutatni, a programra az USA nagyjából húszmillió dollárt költött.
