Noha az Afrikát és Európát összekötő atlanti-óceáni útvonalra vonatkozóan nincsenek pontos adatok a halálos áldozatok számáról, egy spanyol menekültjogi szervezet becslései szerint csak ebben az évben több ezren vesztek oda az atlanti útvonalon.
