Kegyelemben részesítette azokat, akik megtagadták a katonai szolgálatot a vietnámi háború idején, legemlékezetesebb külpolitikai sikere a Camp David-i egyezmény megkötése volt, de hozzá köthető a Szent Korona visszajuttatása is hazánkba.
