A 19. század végén közegészségügyi okokból úgy döntöttek, hogy a folyó ne ömöljön bele az ivóvízforrásnak számító Michigan-tóba, inkább jöjjön onnan a víz. Az ötlettől nem mindenki volt elájulva.
