A német választásokat a várakozásoknak megfelelően a jobboldali CDU-CSU pártszövetség nyerte, miközben az AfD nemcsak keleten tudott nagyot erősödni. Merzék kormányozni minden bizonnyal a szocdemekkel fognak, akik 1887 óta nem szerepeltek ennyire rosszul.
